Profile

Sacred Trees II – Vanessa Radcliffe – Statement

The Sacred Trees Series developed from an idea stimulated after a visit to a Buddhist temple in Chiang Mai, Thailand. The rich gold walls of this temple were covered with delicate miniature representations of important stupas and sacred bodhi trees. The simple beauty of those simplified black, red and white designs made such an impression on me that four years after relocating back to Australia I felt moved to try and create my own homage to the special elegance of natural things. I hope my Sacred trees move you with their quiet and radiant beauty. I hope your eyes are drawn to their vibrant colours and busy geometry and I hope they soothe your rushed and frantic souls in the same way that those stylized Thai trees originally smoothed mine. I hope you accept one of these trees into your life and can gaze upon or contemplate it when you need to remember the beauty that can exist in the world outside of our hectic city lives.
